Abstract
Hypertension is the most important risk factors of cardiovascular disease including ischemic heart disease, cerebrovascular accident, congestive heart failure and peripheral vascular disease, The cardiovascular disease is second most common cause of mortality in Korea. It is important to control of blood pressure for reducing the risk of cardiovascular mortality in hypertensive patients, The causes of essential hypertension are still largely unknown, A number of environmental factors have been implicated in the development of hypertension, including salt intake, high calorie intake, aIcohol intake, smoking, and stress. The environmental factor that has received the greatest attention is salt intake, This study was implemented to analyze the clinical characteristics according to salt intake in adults. We examined the mass screening data of world kidney day¡¯s public lecture in Soonchur~hyang University Bucheon Hospital at March 12, 2009, A total of 63 adults (mean age 52.2t12.2 year, male 19(30.3%) : female 44(69,7%)) was included in the analysis for the present study. Systolic blood pressure of high salt group were higher than those of intermediate salt group significantly, and frequency of hypertension of high salt group was also higher than those of intermediate salt group, Age and systolic blood pressure showed positive correlation significantly. In conclusion, the present study suggests that hypertension is closely related with salt intake. It is essential to reduce the salt intake in adults, especially elderly population for prevention and control of adverse blood pressure levels.
